Three groups of mice were subjected to a sham procedure, transection of both the knee collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLT) or ACLT followed by transection of the medial meniscus (MNCT) and sacrificed at various days postsurgery. Cartilage damage in the distal femur and tibial plateau was evaluated using SEM, according to previous criteria (see text for details).
